When you start MapInfo, the Startup dialog box appears:
Select Open Table (1) and then click Open (2) button.
If you are in a working session and then dont' have the start up dialog box displayed, you can open your file from the File menu and select Open.
In the following step, an Open dialog box appears, navigate to the folder containing the file in question with the extension .Tab.
In our case, the France_reg.tab file that is located in the données_mapinfo folder on the local hard disk C: This file includes the different regions of France.
Select France_reg.tab (3) file and click Open (4).

Map of France regions is displayed in a map window. You can resize the map window to your liking.
Note that in the menu bar, a new menu Map appears. This menu appears only when a Map window is active.
If you want to display the database (attribute tables) associated with the map of regions:
Click Window;
Select Data.
The same operation can be performed with the button New Data Window on the standard toolbar.
And the data is displayed in a new data windows.
To have better view of these two different windows in our workspace
Click Window;
Select Tile.
The two windows are displayed side by side.
If you select Cascade (below Mosaic) in the menu, the windows will appear on each other. In this case, switching from one window to another is done by clicking on the borders of the map or data windows. Indeed the borders of the windows below are still visible (either the top and left edge or the right and bottom edge) and vice versa.
